Sermon: “The Ego’s Judgments are Blind”
Theme: In order to not be deceived by our own bitterness and resentment we need to submit our hearts to God’s instruction.
Purpose: We will pause to examine our perceptions and open ourselves to God’s instruction.
Scriptures: Jeremiah 17:5-18 Blessed are those who trust in the Lord, Jeremiah prays for vindication from people who have denied him.
Matthew 12:22-32 The Pharisees accuse Jesus of being in league with Satan, Jesus warns that blasphemy of the Holy Spirit cannot be forgiven.
Questions: What is meant by the “blasphemy of the Holy Spirit?” And why can that not be forgiven? Are we in danger of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit? Do people know if they have done it? How do we learn to trust in God rather than in our own ego or will? How is it that people become hostile and resentful towards others in unhealthy ways? What do we need to do so that we are not caught up in our own ego and personal issues rather than open to Christ’s love, forgiveness, and justice?
